Soffit is the siding underneath your roof’s overhang which is visible. Soffit is usually the same design and color as your home’s siding, but can be different depending on your own personal tastes and preferences.

Fascia is the area of siding above the soffit. It’s the visible panel or tile board you see on the front of your roof’s overhang and alongside the gutters. Your home’s fascia is very visible and needs to be in good shape so your home’s curb appeal is held high.

Soffits are important because it has venting structures that helps consistent airflow between the roof and attic. The attic needs to be properly ventilated otherwise moisture may accumulate causing mold. Soffits also help release heat from your attic during the warm weather. Additionally soffits block out small animals and insects from getting into your hoe. Small cracks and holes can lead to bee and wasp nests.

Fascia consists of the long straight board along the lower edge of the roof. It’s the final support for the lower edge of the bottom row of roof tiles or shingles. The fascia needs to be supportive for the gutters function of moving large amounts of rainwater in a storm.
